At just 18 months old, Trevan Freeman seemed bound for the same physical challenges as his father. After all, he inherited the skeletal dysplasia that had required his father to undergo multiple osteotomies of the femora and tibias. The procedures were lengthy, and the incisions left scars covering his father’s legs.
Trevan’s parents anticipated similar intervention for their son, who suffered from severely bowed legs. That’s why the innovation of the eight-Plate evoked such thrilling results. Dr. Peter Stevens placed eight-Plates into both of Trevan’s knees. It was an outpatient procedure, and the incisions were only an inch in length. Trevan returned at 2 ½ to remove the hardware from his knees and have eight-Plates placed in his hips. Our four-year-old daughter had surgery for severe bowed legs. She had four eight-Plates inserted above and below her knees. Prior to the surgery we had tried several types of braces to correct her bowing but had no success. Before the surgery, our doctor was able to fit his entire hand between her knees when she stood.
